Dear Fellow Jamaicans,
On this special day, Emancipation Day, we pause to reflect on a journey that has defined our nation and nurtured our identity. A journey filled with trials and triumphs, despair and hope, bondage and liberation.
In 1807, the British Parliament struck the first blow against the terrible institution of slavery with the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act. Though it was just the beginning, this act ignited a flame that could not be extinguished.
The road to emancipation was long and arduous. It took more than two decades for the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 to forge the legal pathway to dismantle slavery. In Jamaica, our ancestors faced the challenging transition of ‘apprenticeship,’ yet they remained steadfast, focused on the horizon of freedom.
We mark this day, August 1st, with both solemn remembrance and joyous celebration. It is a day when our nation took its first significant steps towards equality and human dignity. Though the apprenticeship was supposed to last until 1838, the indefatigable spirit of our people hastened that freedom, and we became a beacon of emancipation.
As we celebrate Emancipation Day, we honor the memory of those who endured, struggled, and ultimately triumphed. We remember their resilience, their courage, and their undying belief in the sanctity of human rights.
At Dawgen Global, we are deeply committed to these principles that shape our nation and guide our endeavors. Let us all take a moment to reflect on our history, rejoice in our shared heritage, and recommit ourselves to the values that continue to inspire us.
Happy Emancipation Day, Jamaica! Together, we stand strong, cherishing our past and embracing a future filled with promise, unity, and hope.
With Warm Regards,
Dr. Dawkins Brown Executive Chairman Dawgen Global
