Advisory

Clear, practical tax advice across the Caribbean, from routine filings to complex disputes.

Tax rules across the Caribbean differ from one territory to the next and change with every budget. For businesses operating in more than one territory, and for individuals with income or assets across borders, staying compliant while paying no more than the law requires takes local knowledge and careful coordination.

Dawgen Global’s tax work is managed through our Caribbean Tax Service Desk in Kingston, which coordinates every assignment across the territories we serve. You get one point of contact, consistent advice, and a team that knows the people, procedures and practice of each tax authority.

The challenge

Penalties and interest build quickly when a return is late or a position is challenged. New rules on transfer pricing, economic substance, digital services and minimum taxes are reaching the Caribbean, while tax authorities are using better data and more audits. Many businesses only discover a problem when a demand notice arrives. By then, the options are narrower and the cost is higher.

Who it is for

  • Companies operating in one or more Caribbean territories
  • Regional and international groups with Caribbean subsidiaries or branches
  • Investors and businesses entering a Caribbean market for the first time
  • Employers of expatriate and cross-border staff
  • High-net-worth individuals, non-residents and returning residents
  • Non-profits and organisations seeking or managing tax exemptions

Signs you need us

  • You have received a demand notice, assessment or audit letter from a tax authority
  • Penalties and interest have built up on late or missing returns
  • You are expanding into a new territory, or restructuring your group
  • You trade with related companies in other countries

What you receive

  • A tax compliance calendar for each territory in which you operate
  • Prepared and filed returns, with copies and confirmations for your records
  • Written advice setting out options, risks and recommendations
  • Transfer pricing and other documentation required by law
  • Representation and correspondence with tax authorities
  • Updates on budget measures and law changes that affect you

How exposed is your business?

Our Tax Risk Health Check is a structured review of your filings, payments and tax positions that identifies exposures before a tax authority does.

How it works in practice

Illustrative example. A regional distributor received a demand notice covering several years of unfiled returns, with penalties and interest exceeding the tax itself. We reconstructed the missing returns, filed them, and applied for a waiver of the penalties and interest, setting out the company’s circumstances and compliance record. The company settled the principal, obtained relief on most of the penalties, and now files through our compliance calendar.

Frequently asked questions

We have received a demand notice. What should we do?
Act quickly, because objection deadlines are short. Send us the notice and any related correspondence. We will review it, explain your options and, where appropriate, file an objection or open discussions with the tax authority on your behalf.
Can penalties and interest be reduced?
In many territories, tax authorities can waive or reduce penalties and interest in suitable circumstances. We prepare and submit waiver applications that set out the facts and your compliance history.
Do you handle tax in territories outside Jamaica?
Yes. Our Caribbean Tax Service Desk coordinates tax work across the territories we serve, so you have one point of contact for all of them.
Do we need a transfer pricing study?
If your business trades with related companies in other countries, you may need transfer pricing documentation, and requirements are expanding across the region. We can assess whether you need it and prepare it if you do.
Can you help individuals as well as companies?
Yes. We advise individuals, non-residents and returning residents on personal tax returns, cross-border income, property and estate matters.
How are your fees set?
Our fees are tailored to each client, based on the scope and complexity of the work and the agreed deliverables, and are set out in your engagement letter.
